Wear guides are wear-resistant, resilient, thermoplastic bearings that reside inside hydraulic applications in order to guide, support or reduce the friction between the cylinder body and rod. They are particularly crucial in applications with unavoidable heavy side loadings. As an example, over time a heavy side loading may cause normal rod bearings to acquire an oval shape. That oval shaped rod bearing can result in poor seal performance because the clearance between the rod seal and shaft becomes larger due to wear. Ultimately, the distortion can cause excessive fluid leakage, rod seal deformation, seal extrusion and eventually seal blowout.
